To say that an innkeeper's work is never done is, indeed, an understatement. The laundry at Oak Hill is never ending. So, taking the time to iron every sheet and pillow case is a time consuming endeavor. We even buy starch in bulk and "scent" it with lavender. I used to complain (just a little) and my friends describe the effort as "crazy".
And then...a couple stayed with us for only one night. We didn't have much of an opportunity to chat until the next morning at check-out. She mentioned that it had been a particularly challenging time for them and this short getaway was very important. She had prayed that she would be sent to a fantastic place. She couldn't have been more complimentary, but the most touching comment (with tears forming) was that she had never slept on ironed sheets before and she found it the height of luxury.
The lesson; we may get caught up in our seemingly tedious and mundane day-to-day tasks, but it is just those efforts that our guests truly appreciate. I don't complain anymore...well, not as much anyway.
It is not only our distinct pleasure but our sincere aspiration to provide special and meaningful experiences for all of our guests.
